sclerotherapy
Sclerotherapy is a procedure that eliminates spider veins and small varicose veins. Spider and varicose veins form when the small valves in the veins are damaged. Normally the veins transport blood back to the heart, but when valves are compromised, blood can flow backward and cause the veins to bulge. Sclerotherapy is a process by which substance is injected into damaged veins, causing the walls of the vein to collapse and seal off. Results are typically seen 3 to 6 weeks post-injection for spider veins and 3 to 4 months for small varicose veins, although a few treatment sessions may be needed. This procedure can be done in the office and you can return he to your daily activities the day following procedure. Patients are counseled to wear compression stockings for 3 to 4 weeks after the procedure.
